Ryder Cup 2025 Betting Preview
Friday afternoon marks the start of one of the most anticipated sporting events of 2025. Bethpage Black, New York, is the location as the USA and Europe lock horns in pursuit of Ryder Cup glory.
Europe recorded a famous win in Rome in 2023. With home advantage and a course that plays to the strengths of their big-hitting stars, the US start as favourites this time around. Here, we pick out our best bets for one of the most enthralling events on the sporting calendar.
Winner
Eight of the last nine Ryder Cups have been claimed by the team playing on home soil. We see that trend continuing at a Bethpage Black course tailor-made for the big-hitting, strong iron game of the US squad.
A look at the world rankings of the 12-man squads suggests the US are a couple of steps ahead of their European counterparts. In Scottie Scheffler, Russell Henley, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, J.J. Spaun, and Collin Morikawa, the US field six of the current top eight players in the world. The average world ranking of the squad comes out at a shade over 11. In contrast, only three of the European team – Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Robert MacIntyre – are in the top ten of the World Rankings, contributing to an average rating of over 23.
With the benefit of a more settled preparation than in 2023 – and hopefully able to avoid the mid-event bug that plagued their camp in Italy – the hosts look like a solid bet to regain the trophy.

To Lift Trophy
When betting on the Ryder Cup, there is an important distinction to make between the “Ryder Cup Winner” and “To Lift The Trophy” markets.
“Ryder Cup Winner” offers three options: USA, Europe, and Draw, and pays out on which team racks up the most points, or the draw if the points are tied.
However, in the event of a draw, the holders retain the trophy. As such, if the scores are tied at the close of play on Sunday, defending champions Europe will retain their title and be deemed winners in the “To Lift The Trophy” market. This market offers only two options: the USA and Europe. A bet on the USA pays out if the hosts win the most points. A bet on Europe wins if they win the most points or the 2025 Ryder Cup finishes in a tie.
This is something to consider for those looking to back Europe. However, having nailed our colours to the US mast, there is no incentive for us to get involved.
Handicaps
The last time the Ryder Cup took place in the US, the hosts ran out 19-9 winners at Whistling Straits. The previous US edition in 2016 resulted in a similarly comfortable 17-11 victory in Minnesota.
The Europeans should have enough talent and team spirit to avoid another 2021 but may struggle to get much closer than the 17-11 result of 2016. Led by the imperious Scottie Scheffler, who will surely play all five matches, and backed by major winners like Xander Schauffele and the power-packed Bryson DeChambeau, the hosts can cover a -5.5 handicap.

Correct Scores
Odds of 10/3 cover a comfortable US victory. However, we will try to boost the payout with a couple of correct score punts on landslide wins. If Scheffler and co get rolling early and get the New York crowd onside, it could be a long three days for the visitors.
