Here’s the lowdown on horse racing odds boosts as we answer the question: are they always what they seem?
Price Boosts: What, When, Where and How
As the name suggests, a price boost is where a bookmaker takes their standard odds and boosts them to an enhanced price.
You’ll likely see something that looks a little like this:
Amorim boosted from 4/1 to 9/2.
Generally, you’ll see price boosts available for selected races each day, with a greater emphasis placed on bigger boosts in conjunction with the major meetings, such as the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot.
To claim an odds boost, just click on the promo price displayed on screen – it will be added to your betslip as normal. Note that, sometimes, price boosts have maximum stake or maximum win limits in place.
A price boost is different to the racing best odds guaranteed promotion. With ‘BOG’, you’re getting the best price available – be it the odds you took or the SP, whichever pays out the highest. A price boost is a discretionary promo offered by the bookies to engage their customers.
And that’s the bottom line, really. Why do bookmakers offer price boosts? In some cases, they are considered a loss leader – they attract new customers and get existing account holders to spend time on the site/app.
Oh, and lest we forget, there’s zero guarantees that a boosted horse will win or place anyway!
Price Boosts vs Enhanced Odds
Here’s another key distinction to know.
A price boost is generally a small enhancement on the price of a selection, e.g. 4/1 to 9/2. The bookies don’t go crazy on these offers because they tend to make dozens available every day.
An enhanced odds bonus, however, is typically a huge and, on the face of it, nonsensical price – e.g. England to win the World Cup at 66/1, enhanced from 5/1.
These enhanced odds bonuses are usually only available to new customers, with the bonus amount often subject to wagering requirements.
The reason bookies offer these promotions is to get new customers to sign up… in the long run, they believe they will recoup whatever the individual can win from the enhanced odds selection.
Best Bookmakers for Price Boosts
Most bookmakers offer horse racing price boosts every day.
However, some bookies are more prolific in that regard than others, so it makes sense to know which firms deliver the best 'boosted' experience.
Bet365
Bet365 generally offers at least one price boost on every single race of the day at UK meetings, as well as some for Irish racing as well.
They have two tiers of boosts: a Bet Boost, which nudges the price of various selections up a point or two, and Super Boosts, where considerable enhancements are offered – from evens to 2/1, for example.
These Super Boosts are generally reserved for the biggest races, such as the headline renewals at the Cheltenham Festival and the Epsom Derby etc.
Tote
The Tote has a very handy Price Boosts shortcut on its main menu, so you can zero in on the races that have enhanced prices without the faff of manually finding them.
These include standard boosts and Mega Boosts, although this latter category is not as generous as the top-tier prices offered by others – we saw one Mega Boost at the Tote which increased the odds from 4/6 to evens, which isn’t really a ‘mega’ leap.
Betfred
Although not always covering every race of a meeting, Betfred still has plenty of horse racing price boosts to offer – these are clearly displayed on the site/app with the red-and-blue ‘Price Boost’ indicator on the race start time.
Like bet365, Betfred also has two tiers of boosts: Price Boost and Turbo Boost, where prices can be increased from 1/2 to even money, as just one example.
BetVictor
Although BetVictor only offers one tier of price boosts, what’s interesting here is that these are often doubles.
So yes, your risk is higher than a boosted single, but the enhancement can often be considerable: from 13/2 to 15/2 and from 10/1 to 12/1 being just two real-world examples.
Are Price Boosts Worth It?
Sometimes, a price boost isn’t even a boost at all. In other cases, you can access some fantastic value.
Here’s five price boosts from bet365 on the day of writing this article. Next to them, we’ve included industry best odds as well as the general price offered by mainstream bookies.

You can probably see the pattern. These boosted prices are better than the general price available with most bookmakers, however they only match the best odds offered by the select few.
So, remember to always shop around to get the most value from any bets you place.
Price Boost FAQs
A price boost sees the odds of a horse, or perhaps two as a double from separate races, enhanced to a point or two higher than they were previously.
To claim a price boost, just click on the enhanced odds displayed on screen to add them to your betslip. Then set your stake as normal.
Generally, odds boosts do represent good value, although it’s important to shop around – by using an odds comparison site – to make sure your price is the best available.
If you have used an odds comparison site and confirmed that the price boost is good value, you should back it at a stake you are comfortable with… but only if your pre-race research reveals that the horse has a lively chance of winning or placing.
The higher tier of price boosts, such as Mega Boost or Super Boost, generally have stake or win limits attached to them.
