England vs Panama Tips, Betting Preview & Predictions
England head into their final group game of the World Cup controlling their own destiny in group L, and their sights will firmly be set on finishing top of the group.
They lead the way with four points, Ghana have the same, but England hold a better goal difference. Ghana play Croatia, who are just one point behind them in third, while Panama have nothing from their opening two games.
England have played four halves of football so far, or eight quarters if you’re American, and have excelled in one half, while the other three have been promising, if a little too slow.
I’m a big believer in growing through a tournament, and on Saturday night, I hope, and expect, England will take a sizable step forward.
England vs Panama Tips & Predictions
With England long odds on to win the game, I’ll be steering clear of that and instead focusing on a couple of different markets that offer value.
I’ve got two England vs Panama tips below, plus a double covering this game and the Croatia vs Ghana game, which kicks off at the same time as this one.
Nico O’Reilly to Score or Assist - 5/2 with BetMGM
To begin with, I’m focusing my attention on Nico O’Reilly. I thought he played well in the first game, didn’t start the second, but did come on as a sub and looked far more threatening than Djed Spence who he replaced.
His ability to play left back, but tuck in field and create a midfield overload is something Manchester City utilise, and so do England, getting O’Reilly higher up the field than your traditional full back.
Combine that with his aerial presence, that almost paid off for him against Ghana, and I think he can get involved in the end product for England on Saturday.
He’s 5/2 to score or assist in the game, and ended the season with five goals and four assists for Manchester City in the Premier League, and a further one goal plus two assists in the Champions League.
Time of First Goal: 0-10 Minutes - 10/3 with PricedUp
England haven’t been great at the start of either game so far, and the optimist in me thinks that will change here.
The talk from the dressing room and coaching staff after Tuesday’s 0-0 draw was disappointment not to win, but they kept things in their own hands by not losing.
Now it’s time to take advantage of that, and go out and win this game in style, and in turn winning the group.
I expect a response, and that begins with England being on the front foot from the start, asserting their dominance early and taking control of the game.
If that happens, there’s every chance they’ll grab an early goal, 10/3 with PricedUp for that to happen in the first 10 minutes is fair value.
Goals Double: England vs Panama (BTTS) & Croatia vs Ghana (Under 2.5)
To round us off, I’m going to combine both games on Saturday night, and have a bet on goals across them.
My first selection is both teams to score in the England vs Panama game. I expect Panama to open up more than Ghana did, they’ve got nothing to lose here, and on top of that, an early England goal will only force them out even more.
England have looked unsteady at the back in both games, even against Ghana when threats were few and far between. A comfortable England win is what I expect, but Panama scoring at some point does make sense.
Over to the other game from group L and Croatia take on Ghana in what I expect will be a very close, tight game with few chances for either side.
Ghana have four points, a draw sees them through, and they’ll be buoyed by their 0-0 tie with England. Croatia need a win, and have goals in them, but I don’t think they’ll be able to break Ghana down too easily.
Croatia scored twice and looked a threat against England, a team that attacks. But against Panama, they only won 1–0, and struggled to get on top for most of that game, against a defensive side playing a low block.
Croatia generated almost 500 passes against Panama, held nearly 60% of possession, but only managed three shots on target. The same tough defensive test awaits here, and that leads me to think this will be another low scoring affair.
