Betway v Coral – Which Is Better?

Betway v Coral - Which is better?

Two of the bigger players on the online betting scene, Coral and Betway have enjoyed contrasting paths to their positions of prominence; Coral’s high street roots harking all the way back to 1926, with Betway’s online operation launching relatively recently in 2006.

Despite those differing beginnings, both sites have made a big splash in the online betting pool and attracted legions of loyal customers. But which is better? Here we take a look at how the sites compare across a number of key areas.

Odds

First things first – how good are the odds on offer? In an effort to assess this we looked at an upcoming handicap horse race, the latest list of Premier League fixtures, and the Superbowl.

The horse racing proved to be a rout for Coral, with the site being the best or joint best price on 12 of 28 runners - way ahead of Betway’s tally of zero. It was a similar story on the football front, with Coral offering better overall odds in eight of the ten games examined. Betway did however register a narrow win in the Superbowl market.

Welcome Offers

New customers at Coral who place a minimum of £5 on their first bet, at odds of 1/2 (1.50) or greater, will be rewarded with 4 x £5 Free Bets.

New customers at Betway meanwhile will receive a Matched Free Bet of up to £30 should their first bet – which must be placed on a racing or football accumulator – lose.

Both solid offers overall, but we suspect the Coral deal may boast the greater overall appeal.

Betway’s offer is potentially worth £10 more than that of Coral but does only trigger should your first bet lose. Both solid offers overall, but we suspect the Coral deal may boast the greater overall appeal.

Regular Offers

Both sites offer excellent free to enter competitions. Coral’s “Football Super Series” and “Racing Super Series” give customers a shot at a monthly jackpot of £25,000, in addition to weekly free bet and cash prizes. At Betway there’s £10,000 up for grabs every day in the “4 to Win” Racing competition, with a similar “4 to Score” promotion available on the weekend football action.

Racing fans are well catered for at both sites. Coral provide a range of odds boosts and extra place races, whilst Betway’s “Lead at the Last” and “All-Weather Double Winnings” offers are understandably popular.

Websites & Apps

Both websites present the type of slick, intuitive functionality you would expect of a big-name company - the excellent layouts and features being so similar that it is very difficult to choose one over the other. Betway’s mobile app did however just hold the edge for us, thanks to smoother navigation and a sleeker overall look and feel.

Depth of Sports & Markets Covered

A win for Coral in the range of sports and events covered, with a total of 51 compared to 31 for Betway. Both sites offer extensive coverage of the most popular options - but if niche pursuits are your thing, Coral has more to offer, from hurling to wrestling and much more in between.

Digging a little deeper into the key sports of football and horse racing, both sites provided close to 200 individual markets for a weekend Premier League football game – more than enough to cover all bar the most unusual options. Coral did however just come out ahead in our racing comparison, with a greater range of betting opportunities - including winning distances and insurance place options.

Service Features

Both sites offer the key features of cash out, extensive live streaming, “build a bet” style options, and “best odds guaranteed” on all British and Irish Horse Racing. As such there is really nothing to split the pair here. Customers at either site will likely be impressed with the range of features on offer.

Payment Methods

Coral accepts Visa, Maestro and Mastercard Debit cards, ApplePay, PayPal, PaysafeCard, and the Coral Connect loyalty card, which enables customers to deposit in any Coral betting shop.

No ApplePay at Betway, but in addition to the above options the site accepts Neteller, Skrill, ecoPayz, Euteller, Trustly, iDebit, eCheck, SOFORT Banking, and Neosurf.

A win for Betway, but customers should have little trouble adding and withdrawing funds from either site.

Customer Support

Solid from both companies. The Betway site features an extensive help section, complete with “how to” videos, in addition to a Live Chat facility. Coral meanwhile also provides a help section, and can be contacted directly via Live Chat, Facebook, Twitter and Email.

Conclusion

Betway did win a couple of the minor battles, but for us Coral won the war. Offering better value odds, a greater range of sports, and a sign-up offer which seems likely to boast more mass appeal, this mainstay of the British betting scene are very hard to fault.

That said, we wouldn’t want to put anyone off Betway, with the company also offering a sleek, modern experience, and appealing range of promotions - just not quite enough to topple one of the most seasoned operators in the game.
