Tyson Fury v Dillian Whyte - Betting Preview

Fury v Whyte - Betting Preview

There’s nothing like a heavyweight dust up to light up a sporting weekend, and this Saturday evening we have a huge fight to look forward to, as unbeaten WBC, lineal, and Ring Magazine World Champion Tyson Fury locks horns with number one contender, Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte. Set to play out in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, and live on pay per view around the world, this is simply not to be missed.

Fury states that this will be his final fight before heading into retirement, and whilst some suggest he may find the lure of a showdown against Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk too much to resist, “The Gypsy King” hasn’t followed the most conventional of career paths and it perhaps wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to see him head off into the Morecambe Bay sunset on the back of this one.

For Whyte meanwhile this fight represents the moment towards which his entire career has been building – the world title shot, the huge pay day, and on the biggest stage of all. Whyte has worked hard for this, and the Brixton based brawler will likely leave it all out on the canvas in the biggest night of his life.

Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte Fight Preview

The first thing to note here is that should Fury so desire, he ought to be able to comfortably take this on points. Five inches taller than Whyte with a hefty seven-inch reach advantage, Fury belies that frame to be one of the most mobile fighters in the division, and if opting to stick behind his jab the more cumbersome Whyte may struggle to get near him.

The trouble with that theory however is that Fury has shown more of an inclination to put on a show in his recent outings. Clearly the superior technician against Deontay Wilder, Fury nevertheless planted his feet to trade blows with the most devastating knockout artist in the division. And he did so at considerable risk to himself – having to get up twice from the canvas before the relentless bludgeoning finally became all too much for “The Bronze Bomber” in the eleventh round.

And what of Whyte? His biggest hope seems to lie with doing something no fighter has yet managed i.e. knock out Tyson Fury. Fury has of course been down throughout his career, but has always risen to pour the pressure back onto his opponent – that Lazarus like comeback in fight one of his Trilogy with Wilder springing to mind. With 19 knockouts from 30 fights however, Whyte undoubtedly possesses power in both hands, with his left hook in particular having the proven ability to put big men to sleep. In the heavyweight division, as we have seen so many times, the underdog always has a punchers chance.

Fury vs Whyte Prediction

Given Fury’s greater skillset a Decision or Technical Decision for The Gypsy King at 5/2 with Betfred has to be a big player. Those looking to support Whyte meanwhile should likely look no further than the 6/1 on offer with Unibet for the underdog to win by KO, TKO, or disqualification.

In terms of how we see this going, it’s hard to look past the physical advantage, greater movement, and speed of the champion. To have a chance in this fight Whyte surely has to come forward, and whilst that devastating left hook is always a danger, the suspicion is that he may just leave himself open to the quick counters and combinations of Fury. An early second half stoppage for the champ may be the way to go here.

And for those considering a specific round, it’s worth remembering that Fury stopped an aggressive Wilder in Round 7 in the second of their fights, whilst Whyte’s come forward approach also came unstuck in Round 7 against Anthony Joshua. 12/1 looks a decent shout for the champ to end this in the seventh stanza.

Fury vs Whyte Best Bets

  • Tyson Fury to win in rounds 7-9 – 10/3
  • Tyson Fury to win in round 7 – 12/1
