Haiti are about to make their first World Cup appearance in 52 years. However, as Steve Clarke himself expressed, the team should not be underestimated.
How does all of this impact Scotland’s chances?
Scotland
According to OddsChecker, Scotland are currently priced at 250/1 to win the World Cup. However, they’re priced at 2/5 to progress through the group stage. This implied probability of 71.43% suggests that Scotland has a very good chance of making the knockout stage.
While the competition is fierce, Scotland could potentially advance to the next stage even if they finish third.
The competition has expanded from 32 teams to 48 teams this year. Now, not only do the top two teams of each group progress to the knockout, but the eight best third-place teams also advance.
Plus, Scotland has the squad to get some wins and draws in the bag. The star players include:
- Scott McTominay - The man behind Scotland’s now-legendary 2.53m bicycle kick against Denmark.
- John McGinn - Another fierce goalscoring midfielder, McGinn has scored 20 goals in 84 appearances.
- Andy Robertson - Scotland’s captain is considered one of the most productive left-backs in world football.
Unfortunately, Billy Gilmour will not be taking part in the World Cup due to a knee injury sustained during a warm-up game against Curacao.
Brazil - The Group Favourites
It should come as no surprise that Brazil are the favourite to come out on top of Group C. They’re currently 10/1 to win the entire competition.
Brazil has won the World Cup five times, reached the quarter-finals last time, and is currently ranked as one of the best teams in the world.
The team is currently ranked 6th in FIFA’s Men's World Rankings, while Scotland is ranked 42nd.
Scotland will face Brazil on the 24th of June at Miami Stadium. Scotland’s hardworking midfield will need to work overtime to combat Brazil’s world-class backline talent.
Specifically, Scotland will need to watch out for:

- Rodrygo - A player who boasts versatility that is difficult to mark.
- Estevao - The 19-year-old scored key goals during the qualifiers.
Morocco
With it being safe to assume that Brazil will come in first place in Group C, Morocco stands as Scotland’s biggest obstacle. Bookies currently have them at 66/1 to win the competition.
They’re one of the strongest teams outside of Europe and South America. Plus, they were on a winning streak of 19 games until December, when they were defeated by Mali.
The two teams will face off on the 19th of June in Boston.
Morocco’s biggest assets include:
- Achraf Hakimi - One of the best attacking full-backs in the world.
- Brahim Diaz - Can beat defenders in tight spaces.
- Youssef En-Nesyri - The first Moroccan player to score in four different AFCON editions.
Haiti
Haiti are the lowest-ranked side in the group, and a team Scotland need to beat on the 14th of June in Boston (both teams’ first game). Dropping points against them would prove disastrous for Scotland and would set them off on the wrong foot entirely.
The only Caribbean nation to qualify, Haiti are the true underdogs of the competition.
They recently achieved an impressive 4-0 win over New Zealand on the 2nd of June. They’re known to counterattack at pace and are built on tactical discipline.

- Jean-Ricner Bellegarde - Known for progressive carries, high dribbling volume, and technical composure.
- Jonny Placide - Regarded as a solid and dependable goalkeeper.
