Premier League: Match Day 11 Treble
The Premier League plays its part in another excellent weekend of sporting action with a cracking slate of fixtures. Saturday evening serves up a televised double-header from the Amex and Anfield, whilst the pick of the Super Sunday fixtures comes from Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea host London Rivals Arsenal.
Here, we pick out our best three bets from what promises to be an entertaining weekend as we bid to land a treble before the latest international break.
Liverpool vs Aston Villa: Saturday 8:00 pm
First stop, Anfield, and this clash between two sides with top-four aspirations. The ultimate goals may be similar, but these sides arrive in vastly different form. Whereas Liverpool were devastating in thrashing Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, Villa were a calamity in a 1-0 defeat at Bruge – losing to a penalty after Tyrone Mings inexplicably opted to pick the ball up in his own penalty area. Battered last weekend at Spurs, Villa are wobbling at the back, and we suspect Liverpool won’t need a helping hand to put them to the sword.
There are still those who suggest Liverpool’s performances aren’t as convincing as their results suggest – Played 16, won 14, drawn 1, lost 1 in all competitions this season. However, to our eyes, the Reds are beginning to look like the real deal and seem likely to improve further as they become more accustomed to the Slot system. Liverpool are averaging around 2xG for at home this season, with Villa shipping around the same xG against. Given their recent defensive troubles, Villa may struggle to restrict the home side to two.

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United: Sunday 2:00 pm
The surprise package of the season to date, Nottingham Forest are up to third and bid to keep the good times rolling as they host a Newcastle outfit who currently sit down in eleventh. This will be the second clash between these sides at the City Ground this season following a 1-1 draw in the Carabao Cup, with Newcastle progressing following a penalty shootout.
Many will understandably fancy Forest here, but they have scored more than once in only one of five Premier League home fixtures. The odd game out came against West Ham last time. However, Julen Lopetegui’s men are shaping up into one of the disappointments of the season and Newcastle are likely to provide a far sterner challenge.
The Magpies have been a little slow to find their stride but arrive following successive wins over Chelsea and Arsenal. Defensively excellent in that clash with the Gunners, Eddie Howe’s men are also posting a positive xG on the road in 2024/25. That represents a significant improvement on last season's away form. Eventually, those stats will convert into wins, and it may start here. With the outstanding Alexander Isak seemingly over a toe issue and potent weapons on the flanks, the visitors can counterattack their way to all three points.

Chelsea vs Arsenal: Sunday 4:30 pm
Last but not least, this showdown at Stamford Bridge. Sitting fourth and fifth, respectively, the sides sit dead level on points heading into the game. For Chelsea, that represents a positive start to life under Enzo Maresca. However, Arsenal will be disappointed to have fallen so far behind in the title race at such an early stage.
Arsenal may receive a boost with the potential return of Marin Odegaard, who came off the bench against Inter in midweek. His creative influence is needed. Arsenal have failed to score in four of their last six away fixtures and struggled to break Newcastle down in defeat last weekend. Averaging an xG of just 1.09 on the road, compared to 1.95 last season, something isn’t quite right with the Gunners front line. However, this may be the game to put that right. Chelsea are yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season, and Arsenal have generally fared well against front-foot sides – beating Aston Villa and Spurs and picking up a point at Manchester City.
Chelsea have improved defensively this season, but we still give Arsenal the edge at the back. If we ignore the Bournemouth game, where they were reduced to ten men and the clash at the Etihad, they have shut out Villa and Spurs on the road and conceded just once at Newcastle. Chelsea are a potent attacking force and can match Newcastle’s tally, but with Odegaard back pulling the strings, that may not be enough.
