PDC Darts World Championship Preview
Every year when Christmas approaches, that means only one thing to darts fans and that is the return of the PDC World Championships, the flagship event of the sport. The best in the world go head to head in December, where we will eventually crown a world champion.
Not only do we get the best players going head to head here, but often they arrive in peak form and that has made for some memorable moments down the years, ones that darts fans will never forget. The 2018/19 event has two players that are currently dominating the outright betting, but we have a number of other players who will fancy themselves as lively outsiders for a tournament where anything can happen.

It is no surprise to see Michael Van Gerwen head the betting market at 7/5 with MansionBet and the world number one has won this event twice before in 2014 and 2017. On his day, there isn’t a player that can touch him, and he has the best three dart average of anyone in 2018 so far after yet another fantastic season.
Rob Cross won the tournament in dramatic fashion last year, beating Phil Taylor in the final on his last game in the sport, and that helped Cross rise to stardom very quickly. He has struggled to live with that for most of this season, but has showed glimpses of promise from time to time. A return to this stage will certainly help Cross, and his experience last season will ensure he doesn’t feel any nerves at all. He is probably just short of the quality needed to win this, but is certainly a lively outsider.
The player who has the ability to serve it up to Michael Van Gerwen, and beat him if he shows any slight weakness is Gary Anderson. Fans have been dreaming of a Van Gerwen vs Anderson final on the world stage but that won’t happen this season due to the draw. These two are both on the same side of the draw, and if things go to plan they will meet in what is sure to be an unbelievable semi-final.
On his day Anderson can win this tournament, and he is a very steady player who holds his form very well, so look out for him to start well in the early rounds and keep going. When comparing him to Van Gerwen, the Dutchman is a slightly better player, but Anderson is very experienced and has the quality to beat Van Gerwen if his opponent plays at anything less than 100%.
In the other half of the draw, Michael Smith has had a very good season, with a second place finish in the Premier League behind Van Gerwen and a win in the Shanghai Masters the highlights of his season so far. On his day he can beat anyone in his side of the draw, and with the way things have panned out for him, a final appearance is not out of the question.
