NFL Season Betting Preview
The new NFL season is here, with a range of teams hoping to be the one that lifts the Vince Lombardi Trophy next February. We will take a look at that race here, as well as diving into other betting opportunities, such as teams to make the playoffs.
Super Bowl Winner
Bookmakers have just two teams at single figure odds, and they are the two teams that contested the Super Bowl last year, Tampa Bay and Kansas City. However, despite the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning that, it is the Chiefs who are favourites this time around, which is based on the fact they have a younger core group and a high end quarterback going into his prime, rather than one coming out of it.
Of the two finalists, while you cannot discount Tom Brady, the Chiefs look far better equipped for a deep run, so they would be the pick from those two.
Further down the list of contenders, the Cleveland Browns are certainly a team to be interested in at bigger odds. They have one question mark, which is their mental approach, this is a team that has done absolutely nothing for two decades, but now they have a roster that is stacked and the envy of most in the league.
Defensively, they were good last year, but have completely upgraded in many positions, if these players click they have an elite defensive roster. Add to that the continued growth from Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb’s running abilities and of course Odell Beckham Jr, and this is a very impressive group.
They won 11 regular season games and made the divisional round of the playoffs last season, but we are expecting much more this time around. That includes winning their division, which puts them up against the Baltimore Ravens, another fancied team, but we like the Cleveland Browns to come out on top in that one.
NFL Playoff Betting
There are two teams who are odds against worth a look in the playoff race.
The first is Miami, who have crept forward and improved over the past 12 months, and they could well take their biggest step forward this season. Combine that with being in a league with the New England Patriots, who have handed rookie Mac Jones the starting job, which poses a number of questions and it seems the Dolphins are in a great position to make the playoffs.
The second is Denver, a team who still have elite defensive options, a core group of receivers who are capable, but have been lacking at quarterback. The Broncos have named Teddy Bridgewater as their starting QB this season. Rather than looking to get someone special, they’ve found a player who can be relied upon most of the time. If they get anything above average from Bridgewater, the playoffs are a strong possibility.
