NBA 20/21 Season Predictions
The NBA is back and the new season kicked off just before Christmas, so teams are a few games into their campaign. As with pretty much every other sports league around the world, off the court things are far from normal but players on the court will be hoping they can get on with the job and make a run at the championship.
After watching a few games in the season, here is our thoughts on the championship and other betting markets to look at.
Outright NBA Championship
The LA Lakers won their 17th NBA Championship last season, equalling the record set by the Boston Celtics, and anyone who saw them play will know it is no surprise to see them as favourites again this season.
The Lakers are 13/5 with William Hill, and with a fired up LeBron James leading the way, they have to be respected. The start for the Lakers has been impressive enough, and just like every good NBA team, as the games become more important towards the end of the season and into the playoffs, they are expected to get better.
Behind them, their biggest danger is likely to come from their own conference and even their own city, with the LA Clippers looking strong. These two teams are fancied to dominate the west, and it would be a surprise to see anyone other than these two representing the west in the final.
Out in the east, Milwaukee lead the way and are priced up at 11/2 with 10bet to win the Championship. One thing in their favour is they won’t have to play either LA team until the final, but do have the Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics to contend with.
As for a prediction, based on what they did last season and how they have started this season, it is tough to go against the Lakers and assuming they stay fit and healthy, they are fancied to win back to back titles.
Eastern Conference Winner
As we’ve just mentioned, a few teams will fancy their chances out in the east and from a betting point of view, this is the most interesting place to focus. The Bucks, Nets, 76ers, Celtics and even the Miami Heat will fancy their chances of winning the East, this isn’t the two-horse race that the West appears to be.
With Giannis Antetokounmpo right in his prime and ready to deliver for the Bucks, they are taken to win the East, though are likely to fall short against the Lakers assuming they meet in the Championship final.
Western Conference Winner
Toss a coin in the west and go with the Lakers or the Clippers, others may be able to shock them from time to time but over the course of a full season, their dominance is expected to shine through.
The Lakers look strong already, and can shine over their city rivals, landing the double of winning the conference and then going on to win the NBA Championship, so it’s the Lakers in the west for us.
