German Bundesliga Preview 16th 17th May
Finally, after a wait of two months, one of the top footballing leagues in the world is back! The German Bundesliga restarts this weekend, with games taking place across Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Interest in these games is going to be far bigger than the usual interest in the Bundesliga, with fans from all over the world ready to see some top-class action. The likelihood is that the German league will be alone for at least two weeks, until others are up and running.
Here we take a look at three games and pick out a treble to follow over the course of Saturday and Sunday for those looking to bet on the Bundesliga.
Dortmund vs Schalke
The highlight of the games taking place on Saturday afternoon is certainly this one. Dortmund pulled themselves into a title challenging position before the break, sitting four points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
They won four in a row, and kept clean sheets in three of those games, the break came at a bad time for them in terms of how they were playing.
Schalke on the other hand, weren’t performing too well. A run of just one win from their last 10 games saw them undo much of the good work they did at the start of the season. As things stand now, they are hanging onto a European place, though teams behind them are chasing them down quickly.
Dortmund should have too much strength for their opponents here, and with a strong defensive unit we are backing the home side to win this game to nil.
Frankfurt vs Monchengladbach
Frankfurt spent this season in the Europa League, but three big defeats before the break put a real dent in that happening again this season. They are down in 12th position and eight points away from the European spots right now.
Monchengladbach are having a great season, they are in fourth, have an outside title chance and a great chance of staying in the top four. The only team to beat them in their last seven games before the break was title chasing Dortmund, showing the kind of level this team is at.
The return poses plenty of questions, but offers a solid chance for Monchengladbach to come back with a win and we are backing them to do that on Saturday evening.
FC Koln vs Mainz
FC Koln were rock solid before the break. They won four and lost two of their last six, the only two teams to beat them were Bayern and Monchengladbach, 1st and 4th in the standings. They go up against Mainz who are currently in 15th on Sunday.
A feature of the games that Koln have recently played in has been goals. Every one of those six games mentioned above had over 2.5 goals in it, so expect a good, end to end game to watch here. They’ve also shown quality though, and should have more than enough to dispatch of Mainz on Sunday.
