England v Italy - Euro 2020 Final Preview
England and Italy will face off in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday. If you’re a neutral, this is probably the best scenario as there is a strong argument to say these two have been the best teams in the tournament.
Both will carry expectations into the final, England more so than Italy due to them being at home. The bookies are struggling to split them, so what do we think?
This game has the makings of a classic, here is our take on the final with our best bets below.
Euro 2020 Final Preview
If you look at these two teams, their current style of play and the history behind both nations, the roles have been reversed in recent years with the current setups of the teams.
England adopt a cautious, defence first approach to games, playing one more defensive minded player than many would like to see. This is very similar to the Italian way, which we don’t see from their opponents at the moment.
This Italy team is far more expansive than what we have seen in the past, they do play attractive, possession based football and they want to get forward and score goals. They’ve got a lot of English style about them, and that sets up an intriguing clash.
If you look at how these two have moved through the tournament, England have grown and got better while Italy started very strongly and have either maintained that or slightly dipped from that in recent games.
Italy needed additional time and penalties in two of their three knockout games, whereas England were exceptional in their first two, scoring six and conceding none, but did need extra time in the semi final.
Harry Kane has four goals, all in his last three games while Ciro Immobile scored in his first two but has been without a goal in his last four, that will certainly worry the Italians.
Our Verdict
Both teams have the attacking talent to score here, and it would be no surprise to see both score in the game and make this an exciting affair for the neutrals. With over 60,000 behind them at Wembley, England will certainly want to push forward, and the Italians won’t be scared.
What separates the teams could come down to an individual bit of brilliance, and perhaps more importantly, some pace. The Italian backline has been rock solid, but if England can run at them with the likes of Raheem Serling and Bukayo Saka leading the way, they could certainly cause them problems.
