Alan Smith: Phil Foden has to start for England!
Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that, following his hat-trick against Brentford, Phil Foden now has to start for England at the European Championship ahead of Manchester City teammate Jack Grealish.

Alan Smith spoke about how good of a player Phil Foden is and that he has more than earned his stripes to start in the England team ahead of more senior players such as Jack Grealish.
I was looking at Phil Foden’s stats this season and he has actually played in and started a lot of games for Pep this year, in a number of different positions. I came away from the game against Brentford, where he scored a hat-trick, thinking that he has to start for England. They have to find a starting place for him at the European Championship because he’s that good.
From an England standpoint, he is now ahead of Jack Grealish in the pecking order. I think that will be how it appears in Gareth Southgate’s mind. Now we just have to hope that he can continue that form for club and country.
England have now got a few players that you could say they need to build the team around with the likes of Foden, Harry Kane, and Jude Bellingham. It’s all about finding a good balance because Gareth Southgate has an embarrassment of riches in his squad. That means there is even more pressure on him to get it right. He needs to find a way of getting the best out of Foden, Bellingham, and the like.
Premier League title seems a formality for City
After beating Brentford on Monday night Manchester City now sit second in the Premier League, just two points behind league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand. City could go top should they beat Everton in Saturday’s early kick-off, with Smith claiming that Pep Guardiola’s side winning the title for a fourth consecutive year “feels like a formality”.
It does feel at the moment as though Manchester City winning the title is a formality, but we should never assume or take things for granted in football – Pep Guardiola and City certainly won’t be. Anything can happen and injuries could always knock them off balance but maybe that is wishful thinking!
