Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, former QPR striker Mark Hateley gave his thoughts on QPR and how they can become a project club, but right now everything is against them following their recent backroom changes.
Former QPR frontman Mark Hateley has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that although fans may disagree, a drop down into League One could be better for The Rs in the long term.
QPR is in danger unless change happens fast
Hateley fears for the London outfit in the short-term, with a gap developing between QPR and league safety, and recent backroom departures including Chris Ramsey leaving his role as technical director and head of coaching, showing change is required.
Everything is against QPR right now. It’s never been a good situation at QPR, you’ve never looked at them and thought that this is now a strong club with strong foundations to build something special - you’ve never seen that. QPR will never come into that bracket of teams you expect to perform well in the coming season.
QPR can become a project club, a full rebuild is needed
Hateley adds that although the short-term future is looking bleak for QPR, relegation could be just what the club needs to turn their fortunes around.
Relegation might be a good thing for QPR. Not for the fans, but for the club. They then become a project for somebody who wants to invest into the football club and build a group of people who can take the club forward.
QPR needs to re-invent itself and build a solid foundation to get out of the slump it is in. If that means that the club need to go down into League One this season to build itself back up, then so be it.
That foundation should also include accessibility for supporters, and I’m talking a new stadium in a better area where fans can get to games easier. I’m not talking a huge stadium but look at something like Southampton or Bournemouth with a smaller stadium in a great location. They are in a superb area and have the ability to bring academy players through – QPR need that.
