Who has the best odds on the Premier League

We examined several upcoming English Premier League (EPL) games on Oddschecker - including big 6 clashes, mid-table games, and relegation matches - and found that Unibet offered consistently solid betting odds with low margins. Specifically, the site’s margins all fell below 6.91%.

While this platform didn’t deliver the ‘best overall’ for all games, it maintained consistency throughout every game we examined.

BetTOM and BetGoodwin closely followed in tied 2nd place, each offering the exact same betting odds across the board.

But what other betting sites offer steady odds, and how do you analyse a betting site’s odds quality? Let's take a closer look.

How We Compared Premier League Odds

Here’s how we reached this conclusion:

We used Oddschecker

We compared betting sites on Oddschecker, which is widely considered to be the industry-leading platform when it comes to betting site comparisons.

This aggregator maintains this reputation by ensuring that its odds are up to date and accurate, 24/7.

The platform provides a snapshot of all bookmakers’ odds at any one given time, which helps to avoid discrepancies - and helps you make the right choice when it comes to bookmaker selection.

We examined the 1X2 betting market

We exclusively examined the match result market, which is also known as the 1X2 market. It deals only with three possible betting options:

  • 1 - the home team wins
  • X - the game ends in a draw
  • 2 - the away team wins

We made sure we looked only at standard pre-match pricing and that the odds advertised were not boosted, enhanced, or otherwise benefited from a promotion.

We avoided looking at in-play markets, such as over/under goals, next team to score, next corner, etc.

We looked at a range of upcoming fixtures

We also examined a variety of upcoming games to give us a sense of how odds differ depending on the importance of the game. The games we looked at included:

  • Arsenal vs Chelsea (March 1st)
  • Brighton vs Nottingham Forest (March 1st)
  • Wolverhampton vs Liverpool (March 3rd)
  • Newcastle vs Manchester United (March 4th)

This gave us insight into how odds differed across the league table - from potential winners to those who could be relegated this season.

Overall, this provided us with an in-depth look at the current state of odds offered by some of the leading betting sites in the UK.

We compared and contrasted

With the data collected, we compared odds. Before we even looked at margins, it became immediately clear that some lesser-known sites were providing better odds for huge upcoming clashes.

For example, Unibet is currently offering 8/13 (1.62) on Arsenal to beat Chelsea, while BetVictor is only offering 4/7 (1.57). This means that this bet has a higher profit potential when placed with Unibet.

The Importance of a Bookmaker’s Margin

The lower the margin, the lower the commission the bookie is taking from the market. A low margin suggests that the odds are as close to the true probability of the game as possible, meaning you, the bettor, are getting more value for your bet.

Analysing the margin

Ideally, you should look for betting sites that offer a betting margin - i.e., the amount the bookie makes in profit from bets - below 7%.
Many betting sites we examined regularly exceeded 7%, including BetVictor, Betfred, and William Hill - generally, the bigger, more established bookmakers. Smaller bookmakers, such as Unibet and BetTOM, offered odds that had margins lower than 7%.

Why a low margin matters

When the margin is below 7%, it means that the betting site is taking less comission from bets made.

For example, a 5% margin means that the betting site is only taking 5% of the market as built-in profit. An 8% margin means that they’re taking 8%. This increase may seem insignificant, but over hundreds of bets, this profit accumulates quite dramatically.

Avoiding betting on sites with a higher percentage means that there’s more profit potential available to you.

If you’re a serious bettor, opting for the site with the lower percentage can increase your payout potential. Additionally, it can also improve your break-even percentage as well as your long-term profitability. Basically, it’s a crucial factor in your success at making a profit from sports betting.

Wagering Sites with the Best Odds for English Premier League games

By taking a closer look at the odds currently offered, we realised that some of the leading betting sites were offering worse odds than lesser-known platforms.

For example, many consider BetVictor to be the best for odds, but, based on the evidence presented below, this is not always the case.

Here are the sites currently offering the best odds in the EPL:

Unibet

Based on the games we examined, we found that Unibet offered the most consistently fair betting odds. It had the lowest average margin overall, meaning that the odds were as close to true probability as possible.

The betting platform had the lowest margin in three of the games we examined, including the Brighton vs Nottingham Forest match, where the latter team is currently struggling near the relegation zone. For this match, it offered promising odds of 13/12 (2.08) for Brighton to win, 40/17 (3.35) for Nottingham to win, and 5/2 (3.50) for a draw. It had an overall margin of 6.41% for this game.

This betting margin is quite a leap from other popular betting sites, such as BetVictor, which has a betting margin of 7.65% for this same game. The site also outperforms the likes of BetFred, William Hill, Bet365, and Sporting Index across all of the games we examined.

Unibet didn’t, however, offer the lowest margin for the game with the highest stakes - Arsenal vs Chelsea. This single-fixture exception is likely due to the high-profile nature of the game and the site’s risk adjustments. However, its 6.91% margin is still highly competitive and not far off the top spot. Plus, we consider the overall consistency to be more important.

BetTOM and BetGoodwin

BetTOM and BetGoodwin are tied in second place. Most importantly, they both offer the lowest margin for the Arsenal vs Chelsea game. With an exceptional margin of 5.96%, these sites have Arsenal to win at 3/5 (1.60), Chelsea to win at 4/1 (5.00), and odds of a draw at 3/1 (4.00).

On top of offering strong value for this London derby, these betting sites also offer great betting offers with low margins on the other games we examined. For example, the sites offered a margin of 6.44% for the Newcastle vs Manchester United game.

Like Unibet, BetTOM and BetGoodwin offer better odds for this particular game than other betting sites. For example, Betfred has a high betting margin of 8.00% for the Newcastle match, with BetVictor not far behind at 7.60%.

However, bettors may still opt for the likes of BetVictor over BetTOM, given that the former is better known, more established in the sports wagering market, and offers better bonuses and promotions. For example, BetVictor has a £30 sign-up bonus, while BetTOM only has a £25 sign-up bonus and doesn’t offer an early payout option.

FAQs

Do Premier League Odds Change Closer to the Game?

Yes, English Premier League odds change closer to the game. Various factors can influence true odds, including player injuries, suspensions, resting players, and confirmed starting lineups. Sportsbooks adjust their odds offered to reflect these changes.

Are the Best Odds Always at the Same Bookmaker?

No, bookmaker consistency in offering the best odds varies greatly. Each betting site has its own risk management and pricing models that influence the betting odds algorithm. These models can ensure a site offers the best odds for one game and the worst for another game.

Are shorter odds better for EPL?

Shorter odds are better if you want a higher winning guarantee, but worse if you want a bigger payout. Shorter odds are given by an EPL sportsbook if the outcome is more likely to happen. The high likelihood is reflected in the smaller payout.

What is the best betting strategy for the Premier League?

It’s a good idea to focus on one single betting market, such as the 1X2 pre-match market. This maximises your edge as it allows you to focus all of your research on one market, rather than spreading yourself thin across several markets. This makes it easier to track betting odds and margins.

What is the 80/20 rule for Premier League betting?

This rule reflects the idea that 80% of your profits should come from 20% of your betting. It implies that you should focus on games that offer the best odds and value, rather than betting on every single game.
