US Open 2020 Men’s Preview
The US Open of 2020 has a different feel to it. Numerous of the top players have pulled out of the event, more so in the women’s event than in the men’s but both have been affected.
Hopefully this doesn’t take too much away from the tournament although from a betting point of view, it has given us an odds on favourite to take the men’s title from the very start, which is rare to see.
Novak Djokovic is at the top of the betting market and considering he started the tournament odds on, you can see how much the bookies fancy him to come out on top.
Finding Value at the US Open
For many people who enjoy tennis and wagering on the sport, backing Djokovic at odds on is not something they will want to do. Rather than doing that, it is best to look for value at bigger prices elsewhere and you can do this by trying out a couple of different markets.
Name the Finalists
This is a great market for those looking to add someone to their Djokovic fancy. Check out the draw here as only selected players can meet due to the draw being broken in half.
Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic to meet is the favourite here, priced up at 7/2 with Betfair. However, interest is a little further down with Dominic Thiem.
He was disappointing in a warm up event, but will no doubt have had one eye on this tournament as he gets back into the swing of playing. The world number three is a strong player and was playing some of the best tennis we have ever seen from him before the break. He reached the final of the Australian Open, and has twice reached the French Open final.
A first grand slam may be a step too far, but Thiem is capable of reaching the final alongside Novak Djokovic.
Each Way Betting
For those looking to bet on one single players to reach the final, you can do this by placing an each way bet. The terms for this are 1/2 odds for the first two places, so effectively to get into the final.
Behind the odds on favourite Djokovic, we have big prices about the rest of the field, with just two other player at single figures and all but three behind Djokovic available to back at 20/1 or bigger.
For those looking to find a player in form, look no further than Milos Raonic. The Canadian player was beaten in the final by Djokovic in the Western & Southern Open last week. He took the first set 6-1 before failing to keep up with the skill of Djokovic, but the signs are certainly promising.
