The Oscars 2023 - Betting Preview
The Cheltenham Festival may be the most anticipated event of March for most betting fans but, for those who prefer glitz and glamour to hurdles and fences, or the red carpet to the green turf, there is another punting spectacular on offer.
Kicking off at midnight UK time on Monday 13th March – just one day before events at Cheltenham get underway – the 2023 Academy Awards, or The Oscars to you and me, will as ever attract the biggest stars on the planet, all dreaming of getting their hands on one of those golden statuettes.
Here we take a look at the main contenders to pick up the gongs in the big categories of Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
Best Picture
The Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert-directed Everything Everywhere All At Once is the red hot favourite in the Best Picture Market at odds of just 4/11, with the strange tale of parallel universes, and finding order amongst the chaos, capturing the imaginations of fans and critics alike.
From one movie which crosses multiple universes, to another confined to a small Irish island. The Banshees of Inisherin reunites Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, who had previously teamed up to such good effect in another Martin McDonagh movie, In Bruges. Lit up by wonderful depths of character and beautiful scenery, this movie is deemed the most likely to upset the favourite at odds of 6/1.
Also in the hunt are Stephen Speilberg's ensemble piece, The Fablemans (16/1), the Netflix-distributed war film All Quiet on the Western Front (8/1), and rip-roaring 80's revival, Top Gun Maverick (10/1). All odds from Betfred.
Best Actor
Austin Butler (4/5) leads the way in the Best Actor market for his hip-shimmying portrayal of Elvis Presley in Elvis. However, he only just shades favouritism from Brendan Fraser (5/4) for his incredible performance as a grossly overweight English Professor attempting to rebuild his relationship with his estranged daughter. In what could be a good night for The Banshees of Inisherin, Colin Farrell (9/1), also makes the shortlist, as does British stalwart, Bill Nighy (50/1) for his inspiring turn as a dull civil servant sparked into doing a little living following a grim medical diagnosis. Best Actress
We have another short-priced favourite in the Best Actress betting, with Cate Blanchett (4/11), out on her own at the head of the betting for her portrayal of fictional conductor, Lydia Tár. This is a fifth nomination for the Australian actress, who picked up the prize from Blue Jasmine in 2013. No surprise to see Michelle Yeoh (2/1) next in line for her multifaceted performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Rounding out the top three is Andrea Riseborough for her career-best performance as a lottery-winning single mother in To Leslie. All odds from Betway.
