The Open Golf Preview
The Open golf event is one of the four majors and a week that both golfers and fans look forward to all year. The reason is due to the unique test that links golf offers, something we don’t see enough of. With the test of Carnoustie golf course lying between the field and the claret jug this week, expect to see plenty of ups and downs and a lot of disappointment and misery.
Not only does it take great skill and ability to win around Carnoustie, but it also takes character, methodical thinking and a whole lot of luck.
The Open Betting Tips
One player who likes Carnoustie, and someone who will feel very confident when going back there is Tommy Fleetwood. He is 22/1 with Betfair for the event, which represents a great each way price. Tommy comes here on the back of a fantastic 2nd place finish at the US Open and although this represents a completely different task his confidence will be sky high. Fleetwood has also shown a love for this course and a round of 63 in October means he is the current course record holder, something else that will help him arrive at the tee on Thursday with a spring in his step.
Another player that looks to have a chance at a big price this week is Alex Noren, who can be backed at 25/1 with Betfair. The one thing that prevents Noren from being one of the best in the world is that he often puts up three good rounds out of four and one bad one. We saw him do that on the Saturday in both the US Open and Players Championship recently, ending his chance of winning. He did put it all together in the French Open when last competing and he won that event, so when it clicks there is no doubt Noren has the ability to win a major. Many players will fall foul during this week and put in one bad round, if Noren can do the same he has a great chance.
