Stephen Warnock: Liverpool can cope without Trent
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that he believes Liverpool will be able to cope without Trent Alexander-Arnold if he leaves at the end of the season
Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, Warnock said: “The loss to Newcastle was a bit of a look into what life might be like without Trent Alexander-Arnold, if he is to leave this summer.
“In big games like that you need someone who’s able to find a killer pass or calm the game down and take the pressure off with their ability on the ball. Trent is capable of doing those things. He has his defensive vulnerabilities, but he gives the team so much on the ball and going forward.
“In the end though, I thought Newcastle were the better team on the day and they were just at the races more than Liverpool were. The way they set up was impressive and they had the better of Liverpool from the off.
“If Arne Slot could go back I think he would’ve made changes a bit earlier. I don’t even think it’s just down to that game. If you look back at the Paris Saint-Germain and Southampton games, he should’ve freshened things up a bit and made more changes.
“Liverpool played against Real Madrid this season without Trent and beat them, so it shows they can cope without him. They coped with losing players like Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard, they can cope without Trent. It’s about making sure you replace these players with quality.”

Warnock feels Liverpool need to sign at least two more attackers this summer, regardless of whether Mohamed Salah stays at the club.
He added: “Liverpool need to sign two attackers in the summer, regardless of whether Mohamed Salah stays or goes. If Slot had everyone to choose from to fill his front three, he’d have Salah on the right, Cody Gakpo on the left, then it’s the two down the middle that aren’t nailed on.
“At the moment it feels like Diogo Jota is the main central option, which would leave Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez surplus to requirements. That said, it still doesn’t feel like he’s fully sold on Jota. He realises that he needs players who can play more minutes and Jota is very fragile. He misses a lot of football and that’s not what Slot wants – he wants robust players.
“They’ll buy two or three players in forward positions this summer. It depends on what money they can recoup on possibly Nunez and Diaz, but I’ve also heard talk that Jota could be leaving as well. I don’t think they’d let all three go, but Nunez is probably likeliest to leave along with one of the others.
“Something does need to be done in those forward areas. We saw against PSG that they found it so difficult to break them down. I was actually very surprised Liverpool didn’t go in for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia when he became available – he looked an absolute bargain for £60 million. It might’ve just come down to them not being able to match PSG’s financial package, we don’t know.”
