Stan Collymore: Thomas Frank is a fantastic appointment for Spurs
Ex-Premier League striker Stan Collymore has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that he thinks Thomas Frank’s appointment as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement as Tottenham manager is a masterstoke, praising the Dane's tactical acumen and hands-on approach to coaching.
Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, Collymore said: “I love the appointment of Thomas Frank at Tottenham. He’s tactically flexible in a way that Ange Postecoglou isn’t. He’s a players’ man; he’ll get his boots dirty on the training ground and show players what he wants from them. He puts his arm around people and is an inclusive coach.
“He looks for an inclusive atmosphere on the training ground and wants players to enjoy it as that’s what football is all about. That said, if you cross him, you’re out. He doesn’t mess about in that regard, so I’m interested to see how he handles a player like James Maddison.

“Maddison talks a lot and delivered to a point last season but how this year pans out for him under Frank I’m not so sure. Whatever his season looks like will be an excellent bellwether for how Frank does. If he strokes Maddison’s ego and he ends up having a great season then the whole team will. Qualifying for Europe would be a success for Frank
Collymore stated that should Frank be able to drastically improve Spurs’ domestic performances, that will be deemed an overwhelming success for him in his debut season in North London.
He added: “If Frank can qualify Tottenham for Europe next season via their Premier League position, that would be a success for him. He will obviously be very ambitious with his tactical acumen and try for a successful campaign in the Champions League given their Europa League win last month. They’ve got that spot in the Champions League, but it will be extremely difficult.
“The key thing that Frank has been brought in for, is that he’s got 10 wins to catch up on from last season. Automatically fans will be saying that they can do it because they’re in the Champions League and therefore got a squad capable of performing at that level.
“10 wins better off than last season is almost an impossibility though. Given they’ve got a spot in the Champions League, they’ll be looking to do as well as they can in that, and so even if Frank can pick up five more wins in the Premier League, that would take them to mid-table.
“Seven or eight more wins than last season would likely put them in the conversation for European places and if he can do that with the squad he’s got, as well as competing in the Champions League, he should be up for Manager of the Season.
“He has to claw back 30 points from what Ange did in the Premier League last season, and that’s not an easy thing to do by any means.”
Mbeumo should choose Spurs, not Man Utd
Collymore admitted that Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has been his favourite player in the Premier League for the last couple of seasons and reckons a move to Spurs over Manchester United is a no-brainer in order to enjoy his football and play under a manager he is used to.
He said: “Bryan Mbuemo has been my favourite player in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons. He should choose Spurs, not Manchester United. He’s not underrated, but I don’t think people recognise how versatile he is.
“He can do everything - he can knit together players from the midfield into attack, he can score goals, his finishing is much better now. He’s a good line leader and can play as part of a three or a two.

“If I were him and had to choose between Spurs or United I’d pick Spurs every day of the week. He could move to play under a manager he knows and would have the opportunity to play with the likes of Brennan Johnson, Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke, all of whom he’d link up with really well. “For me, it’s not even a question, he should choose Spurs, 100%. Even if he was offered double the wage to be at United, with the appointment of Frank, he should be staying in London and play for Spurs so he can enjoy his football – he’s still young.”
