Stan Collymore: Rashford should leave Man UtdFormer Premier League striker Stan Collymore has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that he believes Marcus Rashford should leave Manchester United in order to escape the limelight.
Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, Collymore said: “I don’t think Ruben Amorim moving Marcus Rashford up front will be enough to revive his career at Manchester United – I think he should leave. He’s done an exceptional job there not only on the pitch, but also with his contributions to the community such as the free school meals campaign. However, his rise in the public eye also coincided with a drop in form. He seems like a shy lad and I don’t think he took well to being Marcus Rashford MBE and suddenly being a household name.
“He had a hot streak 18 months ago where he showed everyone what he can do. While I do think he might have a slight uplift initially under Amorim, I don’t think Amorim will be content with his inconsistency. He won’t accept a nine out of 10 performance one week and a five out of 10 the next.
“If I were Marcus, I’d be looking to move to a team that’s qualifying for Europe every year or even looking abroad like his former teammates Chris Smalling and Scott McTominay did. I’d go to a club where the expectations are still high, but he can enjoy himself more rather than being constantly under the spotlight at United.”
Cooper never convinced me and neither does Van Nistelrooy
Discussing Leicester’s recent sacking of Steve Coooper and appointment of former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, Collymore admitted that he was never convinced Cooper was good enough to manage in the Premier League and that he would’ve replaced him with Graham Potter rather than Van Nistelrooy.
“I’m not convinced Steve Cooper was a Premier League-level manager,” he said. “That’s not to say that he doesn’t have something to offer a club high up in the Championship and take them into the Premier League. I imagine he wanted to do that at Nottingham Forest, but they went and bought 30-odd players, some of whom were bigger names on bigger wages. I’m not sure he was ever going to thrive in that situation.
“Then he went to Leicester, a club which has won the Premier League and still has players from that squad there. It felt like a similar situation. He hasn’t done enough in the Premier League to earn the respect of some of these players. He needs to go back to the top of the Championship where he’s done his best work.
“In terms of the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy, it just goes to show what a successful four games at United can do for you! I’m not convinced that doing a half decent job in the Netherlands and keeping the wolf from the door for a very short time at United is the kind of track record Leicester need to get back to where they want to be. I think Graham Potter would have been a better choice, but he might be waiting for a bigger job at the end of the season.”
