Premier League Treble Saturday August 28
After the EFL Cup in midweek, attention now turns back to the Premier League and headlining the action over the weekend, we have two big clashes on Saturday involving four of the biggest clubs in the league.
Arsenal, without a win in the league so far, take on Manchester City, while later on Saturday, Liverpool host Chelsea, two teams who have started the season well. Right in the middle, West Ham are looking to continue their impressive start at home to struggling Crystal Palace.
Manchester City v Arsenal
Title holders City bounced back from their opening day defeat with a strong performance at home to Norwich, and now Arsenal visit the Etihad. The Gunners have not scored in the league so far, beaten twice, but did win in the EFL Cup in midweek.
However, beating West Brom and Manchester City are two different things, and based on what we have seen from Arsenal so far, they simply lack the quality to compete. City can take this, and on top of that we also fancy them to keep a clean sheet just like they did last weekend.
In the opening game, it’s Manchester City to win to nil for us.
West Ham v Crystal Palace
It’s free scoring West Ham against goal shy Crystal Palace in the second game we look at. The Hammers have won both of their games so far, and scored four goals in each of them, against Leicester and Newcastle.
Crystal Palace have played three games if you include their cup game in midweek, and they are yet to score. That doesn’t bode well and this is going to be an incredibly tough game for the Eagles. Palace may fancy their chances of a goal, with West Ham playing an attacking style, but ultimately, the Hammers look as though they have more than enough to get on top here and win.
For our second pick, we like West Ham to win and over 2.5 total goals.
Liverpool v Chelsea
The last game is the game of the week for us, with two strong teams going head to head on the back of really positive starts. Both teams have won their opening pair of games, they have both scored five goals in them and are yet to concede.
With Romelu Lukaku giving Chelsea a central, world class goalscoring threat for the first time in many years, the expectation is that they will do well this campaign, and this is their biggest test to date. Liverpool stumbled last season, but in two games so far, we’ve seen the swagger they showed in their title win run two seasons ago.
It’s a tough one to call, but at the prices, we like Chelsea here, a win that would be a real statement to the rest of the league.
