Premier League Treble 31st Aug - 1st Sep
We are closing in on reaching the end of the first month of Premier League action, and once again this coming weekend we have a full book of fixtures to look forward to. The biggest game of the weekend without a doubt is the North London derby which takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Arsenal would love to get one over on their near rivals Tottenham while Spurs continue to struggle at the start of the new season.
First up in our treble we look at two 3pm kick offs on Saturday, beginning with Leicester hosting Bournemouth. This has the hallmark of being a very open entertaining match to watch, and the selection here is over 2.5 goals in the game. This has only happened for Leicester in one of their three games so far, but that doesn’t put me off too much. They played an end to end game with Chelsea two weeks ago that resulted in a 1-1 draw, and scored twice in their 2-1 victory over Sheffield United last weekend. Leicester will see this as a game they can win, and they will no doubt go out and attack from the off.
Bournemouth have been involved in three games so far, with a total of nine goals across them. Two have had over 2.5 goals and they like to play football. This together with how I feel Leicester will set up is the perfect recipe for goals, and the reason why I am backing over 2.5 here.
The second of Saturday’s games to look at is the one at the Olympic Stadium between West Ham and Norwich. The Canaries may lack enough Premier League quality to survive this season, but they will continue to play their attacking football and create chances despite that. This has led them to scoring in every game so far, including when they put two past Chelsea last week.
Other than a big opening day defeat against Manchester City, West Ham have looked good on their travels, and things clicked for them from an attacking point of view when they scored three at Watford last weekend. They have defensive issues, but going forward they look lively. I think this game lends itself to a bet on both teams to score in the game. Norwich have scored in every game so far, and can trouble this West Ham backline while The Hammers will see this as a game they have to be taking three points from.
Our final game is the big one on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal played some good football in their two opening victories, but were outclassed last weekend at Liverpool. Few teams will be able to go to Liverpool and bring points home with them, so there is no shame in that score line.
The good news for The Gunners is that Tottenham are really struggling at the moment, with unrest in the team and many questions to answer. They were poor on the opening day against Aston Villa, and even worse last weekend at home to Newcastle. A draw away at Manchester City sandwiched in between those two games has been their only shining light so far.
While there is probably not too much to pick between these two on paper, the way the teams are playing right now points towards an Arsenal win at the Emirates on Sunday, which will round off our weekend Premier League treble.
