Premier League Restart
The Premier League is back on June 17 and we have football on almost every day from then until the end of the season which is set for July 26.
As far as the top of the table goes, Liverpool are set to take home the title within the first couple of games back, and could even do it on their very first game back if other results go their way.
The most fascinating battle is at the bottom, where six clubs are involved, three will stay up and three will go down. Take out Norwich and the other five are separated by just four points, every single point matters down there.
Aston Villa and Bournemouth are in the relegation zone as we resume, but Watford, West Ham and Brighton are only just above them.
Will 40 Points be Needed?
Plenty of people talk about the need for 40 points, but that has been required just once in the last 16 seasons, so teams don’t need to be aiming that high.
36 is a more realistic number to be aiming for, and teams down at the foot of the table should be starting from this point.
Who Has the Toughest Run In?
Each club has nine games to go, with the exception of Aston Villa who have 10. Every club has big teams to face, so there is no such thing as an easy run in here.
With trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, Norwich are in a position where they need to win pretty much all their remaining games other than these three to get out of trouble and for that reason, many think they are almost certain to go.
Aston Villa play bigger clubs at home, they host Arsenal, Chelsea and Wolves as part of their run in but won’t be able to rely on any help from their fans which has really gone against them here. Having said that, games against Newcastle, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Sheffield United do give them a fighting chance.
Bournemouth have five away games to play at Manchester City, Manchester United, Leicester, Wolves and Everton so could end up with nothing from those. They face Tottenham at home, another tough game, and will be relying on home games against Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Southampton to get out of trouble.
Watford don’t have it easy with trips to Chelsea and Arsenal but they do have plenty of games they could win at home. Southampton, Norwich and Newcastle all have to visit, those nine points could be enough.
West Ham may have the easiest overall run in. They have home games against Burnley, Watford and Aston Villa to target as well as away trips to Norwich and Newcastle. Other games are tougher, but they have five strong chances of picking up points there.
Lastly, Brighton host Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City which won’t be easy. Their easier games are on the road, with trips to Norwich and Southampton, but this is not an easy task for them.
