NFL Conference Championship Game Previews
Four teams are left battling it out to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy and after this weekend, we will know who will face off in the Super Bowl on February 7.
In the first game on Sunday, Tom Brady and the Bucs travel to face Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers, in a game featuring two veterans and all-time great quarterbacks.
The second game is a look at who will shine over the next decade, with current champions Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes taking on the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen, who has been electric all season.
Here is a look at both games on Sunday.
Bucs @ Packers
Whatever happens in this game, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time will be in the Super Bowl. Tom Brady finally left the New England Patriots last summer and hopes to win a Super Bowl elsewhere to further enhance his reputation, if that is even possible, while Aaron Rodgers has just one ring to his name, which you could argue as being disappointing if that’s how his career ends.
The Packers eased away from the Rams last weekend, winning 32-18, shutting them down in the final quarter to coast away and into the conference championships. This was mainly thanks to some great game management from Rodgers, the Rams were chasing the game, down by seven in the last quarter and didn’t get a score at all.
The Bucs beat the Saints to get here, that game ended 30-20, all thanks to a great fourth quarter from Tom Brady. The game was tied 20-20 going into the last quarter, when Brady came into his own, was exceptional and used his experience to lead his team to another 10 points, and ultimately victory.
These two will determine the winner on Sunday, but with Aaron Rodgers having so many more weapons to use than Tom Brady, and probably a slightly better defence, it is the Packers we are siding with.
Bills @ Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes was taken off the field with a concussion on Sunday night, his participation in this game is crucial. If he doesn’t play, the Chiefs would be at a huge disadvantage and the Bills would emerge as favourites to win.
However, there is optimism that he does play, and if he does then this is exactly the kind of game situation he thrives in. The run last year has given him all the confidence and experience he needs, and on top of that, he’s surrounded by talent.
The Bills have Josh Allen to thank for being here, he’s been incredible but when you look at his team, he’s lacking the talent that Mahomes has, something that will keep the Bills away from the big time until they fix it.
Last weekend, the Bills conceded just three points against a Ravens offensive lineup that really struggled. We don’t see them being able to contain the Chiefs in the same way, assuming Mahomes plays. Allen will no doubt be strong again, but the Chiefs may have too much.
