Men’s Wimbledon 2021 Betting Preview
After cancellation last year due to Covid-19, the centrepiece of British tennis is back with Wimbledon welcoming fans back from June 28 until the finals weekend on July 10 & 11. We have both a men’s and women’s tournaments on offer here but our preview will focus solely on the men.
Novak Djokovic comes in as the favourite, current holder and a player looking to win his sixth title. With no Rafael Nadal, a Roger Federer on the decline and a half-fit Andy Murray, many believe this tournament is there for the taking for Djokovic. Can he win it again, or is there a potential surprise on the horizon?
Here is a look at the main contenders.
Novak Djokovic
The best player in the world right now, and a dominant force on grass. Add that on top of the current situation with other stars falling away and this is a great opportunity for Djokovic to dominate this competition once again.
He is starting the tournament as odds on favourite, and it is easy to see why. Sure to have many fans, but at these odds, he is probably best left for those who prefer a smaller wager at better odds.
Daniil Medvedev
The number two seed and a winner of his first grass event right on the eve of Wimbledon, which could not have come at a better time for him. Medvedev has to prove it again on the main stage, but that win could certainly push the Russian to the next level.
He’s never performed at Wimbledon though, and that will be a concern. His best here has been a 3rd round finish.
Roger Federer
The man who people would love to win for nostalgic reasons. A superstar on any court, especially on grass and he’s won this event eight times, although not since 2017 in recent years. At 39, he is certainly slowing down and will have to use all of his court knowledge to work his way through the draw in a bid to reach the final.
Ultimately, he looks set to be found out at some point, which will be a disappointment for the Wimbledon regulars.
Alexander Zverev
The German player finds himself on the opposite side of the draw to Novak Djokovic, and in a half with Daniil Medvedev, which certainly aids his chances of reaching the final.
He’s reached the fourth round here once, back in 2017, and has a game that is setup for the grass court, with a strong serve and perhaps even better serve return. A French Open semi final spot showed his quality, and Zverev may well be the value here to go against the field, especially considering the draw that he has.
Wimbledon 2021 Men’s Betting Tip:
Novak Djokovic certainly looks to be the most likely winner here, but his odds reflect that, and he starts at odds on before a ball has been served at the tournament.
With that in mind, we are siding with the value and Alexander Zverev, who can come here and show how good his game is, while also showing us how well he is suited to playing on grass.
