Liverpool vs Tottenham Premier League Preview
The Premier League returns this weekend and with just a handful of games to go, teams are getting their heads down for the final stretch. The game of the weekend when we come back is certainly this one between top of the table Liverpool and third placed Tottenham. Manchester City play a day earlier and if they win as expected, Liverpool will drop down to second before this game, adding a little more pressure onto them, if they weren’t feeling enough already.
Liverpool are embroiled in the title race with Manchester City, and currently have a two point cushion at the top of the table. However, they have played one more game than City, so Liverpool need their rivals to slip up if they are to take the crown away from the Etihad.
Tottenham had a small chance of being involved in the title race themselves six weeks ago, but they are now firmly out of it. They are so far out of it now that they have been dragged into the top four battle, and if they don’t pick up their form soon they could find themselves outside of the top four which would be a huge disappointment considering their position not too long ago. Spurs come into this game on the back of three defeats and one draw from their last four league games, and a trip to Anfield would certainly be the place to turn that around if they wanted maximum effect from it, just in time for the final stages of this season.
Both teams are looking a little tired, which is no surprise after seeing them rely on key players throughout the entire season. If both are to have success on a regular basis then depth is needed, and currently that is the advantage that Manchester City has over their challengers.
Tottenham are desperate to turn things around, and while I don’t think they have enough to go and win at Anfield, with Liverpool struggling a little bit, I get the feeling that Tottenham could sneak a draw here. Liverpool are missing a little bit of the cutting edge they so brilliantly showed us at the start of the season, which is why I don’t think they will win the league, they look set for a slip up at some point.
