Lee Sharpe: Rashford has the same ability as Mbappe
Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that Marcus Rashford has the ability to be one of the best players in the world, on par with Kylian Mbappe, but looks a shadow of his former self at the moment under Erik ten Hag.
Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, Sharpe said: “Marcus Rashford has the ability to be one of the best players in the world, as good as Kylian Mbappe. He’s got pace, power and buckets of ability, I just think he’s a shadow of his former self at the moment.
“The season he scored 30 goals, as soon as he got the ball, he’d be running at defenders and was unplayable. I don’t know whether he just doesn’t want to be at the club anymore and needs a change. It may be that he needs rejuvenation under another manager somewhere else.
“He’s one of those players that you can see leaving and then setting the world alight, and I don’t want that to happen, I want to see it happen at United because he’s one of those players that you pay your entrance fee to go and watch.”
The United badge may have been too big for Sancho
Commenting on Jadon Sancho’s hot form under new management at Chelsea, Sharpe expressed that the pressure of playing for a club as big as United may have been too much for him.
Sharpe said: “Jadon Sancho is one of those players that gets you off your seat when you watch him, his footwork is unbelievable, and he goes past people like they’re not even there, making the game seem so easy. Consistency in performance was the only thing that held him back at Manchester United.
“I’m not sure whether then United badge was too big for him and if Erik ten Hag didn’t give him enough care or trust to let him express himself on the pitch. I don’t know why he didn’t do it at Old Trafford but he’s got all the ability, and I’m pleased that it’s working for him at Chelsea.
“I think football needs players like him, the youngsters love to watch him, we love to watch him, I just wish he was doing it week-in week-out in a United shirt.”
Fernandes moans too much for a United captain
Sharpe mentioned that he’s never been sure on Bruno Fernandes, saying that he moans too much to be captain of United, despite leading by example in other areas.
“I’ve always had questions about Bruno Fernandes,” said Sharpe. “I know he’s one of the best when it comes to creativity, and he can create some unbelievable chances and score some fantastic goals but he still gives the ball away cheaply in very dangerous areas.
“I think there’s too much arm waving, gesticulating and moaning for a Manchester United captain – he needs to be above that. As far as work rate and creativity goes, he does set the example, he wants to play every game and covers every blade of grass – although that can be detrimental to the team when he’s out of position. He lacks a bit of discipline there.”
