Jermaine Pennant: Salah is on course for the greatest season in Premier League history
Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that he believes Mohamed Salah’s 2024-25 season is on course to go down as the greatest individual campaign in the history of the Premier League, provided the Reds go on to win the title.
Salah currently has 24 goals and 15 assists so far this season, with his total of 39 goal contributions leaving him just five shy of Thierry Henry and Erling Haaland’s record of 44 contributions in a 38-game Premier League season. Pennant feels that if Salah continues on this trajectory, not only will he surpass that record with games to spare, but he will also undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest players in the league’s history.
Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, Pennant said: “If he carries on the way he’s currently going, Mohamed Salah’s season may have to go down as the greatest individual season in Premier League history.
“It’s hard to say for certain when you look for example at what Erling Haaland has done previously and the number of goals he put up. However, not only is Salah providing goals, but he is also assisting and bringing his teammates into play. He has been so instrumental to where Liverpool are.
“Considering where Liverpool are in the table and the fact that it is Arne Slot’s first season, you’d have to say it’s one of the greatest individual seasons we’ve seen in the league. He’s already closing in on 40 goals and assists combined, and we’ve not even hit the 30-game mark yet!
“We probably thought Thierry Henry’s record would never be broken until Haaland came in and matched it. You’re talking about an absolute legend of the game and someone who came into the league and smashed every record there was to be broken. That said, if Salah continues on his current path, he is on his way to breaking that record of 44 goal contributions. At that point, it would be difficult to argue that he is not one of the greatest players in Premier League history.
“When we talk about that level of player, you look at someone like Henry. He never won the Champions League with Arsenal and didn’t win half the number of trophies that Salah has with Liverpool.”

Pennant believes that, as well as being a Premier League great, Salah will also go down as a Liverpool legend. Pennant put him alongside three other Liverpool icons who he believes make up the Reds’ Mount Rushmore.
“For me, Salah is up there as one of the four greatest Liverpool players of all time,” said Pennant. “He stands alongside Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and Steven Gerrard in the Hall of Fame. They’re the best players to ever play for Liverpool.
“He’s won it all during his time at the club and could add another Premier League, Champions League and League Cup to that this season. Not only that, he’s also never failed to score 20 goals in all of his eight seasons at the club. That in itself is incredible. For me, it’s Dalglish, Rush, Gerrard and Salah.”
