Jarrell Miller Exclusive: Dana White’s G-Unit Playbook, Zuffa "Low-Ball" Offers, and the Truth About His New Hair Glue Line
Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, heavyweight Jarrell Miller opens up on Matchroom vs. Zuffa, his line of new hair products, and his derisory offer from Zuffa boxing. Miller covers all and gives his view on the heavyweight landscape, potential showdowns, and more.
The "50 Cent Playbook": Dana White, Eddie Hearn, and Conor Benn
Conor Benn to Zuffa?
I guess money talks. That's very weird. But who knows, maybe Conor Benn and Dana White and Eddie Hearn are cross-marketing, controversy sells. Maybe they talk shit about each other to get people talking about it, and then go sign his best fighter to keep the momentum, it could be an amazing play out of 50 Cent's playbook.
50 Cent found a way to go viral for 20-plus years off of causing beef, negativity between artists. And he's a multi-platinum-selling artist, so his way of publicity was controversy sells and I think maybe that's a playbook that Eddie Hearn and Dana White are using right now.
How will Eddie react?
I think Eddie's going to flip it in some way to make it a positive. Eddie's not a hot-head kind of guy nowadays; before, he was a little hotheaded, but I think he's going to find a way to make it positive. Only time will tell.
How big of a star is Benn in the USA?
He's not a big deal in America. Some people know who he is, but he's not somebody that people really bring up like that now. But he's big in the UK, so if you're thinking from a marketing standpoint, it's good for Zuffa Boxing to get people in the UK liking it, because I'm telling you right now, America's not feeling Zuffa Boxing after their first two events. The shows weren't that tight. They were very dull. Hopefully, they change something and make it more exciting. Let's see.
Has Zuffa tried to sign you?
I've had an offer from Zuffa since last year, right after the Michael Hunter ordeal fell through. We’ve had a couple of talks, but what they're offering and from what I've seen, I was definitely not excited or intrigued by it at all.
"If you don't want to take this fight, cool, I'll get somebody else," and they shelve you.
The numbers are not that great from the first offer I got. Also a ton of my friends and my brothers are in the UFC, and I've kind of seen how they've been dealt with and the way they've been treated, and it’s like, "Wow, they can do that to you. What are they gonna do with boxing?” One of the models that I've heard with UFC, from other fighters, is like, "If you don't want to take this fight, cool, I'll get somebody else," and they shelve you. And I don't like that.
I'm not throwing dirt or anything, I'm just going by what I've seen. I think any opportunity for a fighter to make money is a great opportunity. But some of us have been put on work longer than others, taking our licks and our blows, so we want to be compensated right. So, like I said, until I see something that makes any sense for me, because I know whatever I do in the Zuffa is gonna put millions of eyes on it, so it's got to be worthy.
How low was their offer?
Compared to what I made in my last two or three fights, it's about 30-40% lower. So, for me, it wasn't a great offer. And I feel like they kind of want to lock you down in some ways. Like I said, I didn't really get too much negotiation in it; I just saw it and was like, "I don't think it's for me right now." I feel like you guys can do a lot better. The door's always open.
Next Steps: Matchroom, Miami, and Oleksandr Usyk?
So who are you going to sign with?
I'm more inclined to work with Eddie Hearn than anybody else. We're still looking at a date in April with Matchroom. I guess they're trying to figure out the logistics. They kind of wanted me to come back March 15 at first to fight in New York. It couldn't materialize because I was dealing with something, but all options are open, but I think Eddie Hearn and Matchroom are in the frontrunner seat right now.
I'd love to fight in Miami, Florida. Not only are there tax benefits, but as an American with a Caribbean background, I appreciate the large Haitian, Jamaican, Belizean, and Latin communities here. Furthermore, the guy I want to fight, Lenier Pero, called me out. He's an undefeated Cuban guy, and I believe he's ranked number two in the WBA. I think that would be a great barn burner and a fantastic fight, and I definitely think I could knock him out. I would love to make that fight happen.
Any other offers in the offing?
I got a call early this week about fighting Oleksandr Usyk, probably in June. There's a lot of phone calls, a lot of things going on. Like I said, I'm open to everything, but personally, I like to go where there's good energy, regardless of what's happened in the past. I have a lot of good energy from Eddie Hearn and Matchroom the most right now, so whatever I do, I kind of want to see what he wants to do first. Money talks in this business, but the doors are open for everybody to bring something to the table.
Business Outside the Ring: Toupees and "Ultra-Strong" Glue
Are you going to release a range of products after your wig was punched off?
We've got a few products coming out. I'm just working every avenue right now. Like I said, a lot of positive things came out of it. You see my hair growing back in already. It's just fun, man. It was something that definitely wasn't planned, but it was God's plan. And we take every negative turn to a positive. And I didn't realize how many brothers out there were dealing with baldness or thinning hair, and subconsciously just dealing with that insecurity. I'm overwhelmed with messages from guys that are saying, "Yo, bro, I appreciate the confidence," and all that. So, I want to do something special for my guys out there and be positive for them.
we're making what could be one of the strongest hair glues on the market right now
We've been discussing doing our own hairline for toupees. That's something we've reached out to a couple of companies about and plan to start pushing. However, I'm actually launching my own hair glue in about a week and a half. One of my friends works with celebrity and movie stylists on movie sets, dealing with toupees and hair on people. While there are products for women, there's nothing specifically for men, and she mentioned it could be stronger. So we reached out to that company, and we're making what could be one of the strongest hair glues on the market right now. It's a big market, and nobody's really taking advantage of it, so I want to be the first to really get on it and make something of it.
I'm definitely going to be using one of my own products in the ring again real soon. I don't know exactly what hairpiece or hairdo I'm going to use yet, but definitely look out for it. We've got some fun stuff coming.
Miller’s Bout Predictions: Wilder, Dubois, and Fury
Ahead of the upcoming heavyweight slate, Miller give’s his verdict.
Chisora or Wilder?
Chisora is one of those guys that is so durable. He's so mentally strong. He has a physically fit stamina engine. He might look tired, but he can still fight. Deontay can't fight tired, not the way Chisora does. So, I'm thinking it's Chisora in this one. Best man wins, but I think Chisora's gonna get him. Deontay’s skills deteriorated when he changed trainers. I feel like if Wilder would have stuck to his name, being a wild man, fight wild and do wild shit, he would still be a guy threatening. But when you're trying to tame down the beast and become a boxer, he's not a boxer, he never made it through boxing, boxing, now you're trying to change up his style, it's not working for him. Styles make fights, and Chisora has a style that definitely hurts him.
Wardley or Dubois?
It's a 50-50 in my book, and I'll tell you the reason why. We've seen Wardley hurt many times in fights, but he's durable. He's mentally strong, he hangs in there, and he's throwing hard punches to the last round. We know Dubois hits hard and has a really good chin, but mentally, he's not durable. If his dad doesn't stay in his ear for those 12 rounds, there are fights where he's quit, mentally disengaged after getting caught with shots, and kind of given up. So, he's probably going to start off pretty strong, but if Wardley can hang in there, I'm thinking a late stoppage for Wardley, or an early night win for Dubois.
Fury or Makmudov?
Anybody who's a little taller for Tyson gives him a little problem, if you watch history. The thing is, will Makmudov's chin hold up, and will he be a little aggressive? If Makmudov can be aggressive, use a little head movement, and come forward, I think he can give Tyson a lot of problems. I think Tyson still pulls through, but I don't think it's an easy fight like everybody thinks it is. The guy can crack and he does have some meanness in him, let's see how long he stands up.
