FIFA Club World Cup Final - Betting Preview
With many of the big guns having fallen by the wayside, only two sides remain in the 2025 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup. It’s an all-European affair at the MetLife Stadium, as Champions League kings PSG face a Chelsea outfit who finished fourth in the Premier League last season.
Sunday, 8pm is the date in the diary for the FIFA Club World Cup Final, with the game free to watch via DAZN. But who will come out on top in the first meeting between the West Londoners and the French champions since 2016? Here, we take a look at the route to the final, key matchups and pick out our best bets for the game.
Route’s to The Final
Enzo Maresca’s side have enjoyed a near flawless route to the final – the only blip coming when reduced to ten men and suffering a 3-1 defeat to Brazilian outfit Flamengo in the Group Phase.
Finishing second in Group D, the Blues scored three times in the space of nine extra-time minutes to see off Benfica in the Last 16 before easing past the Brazilian duo of Palmeiras and Fluminense, 2-1 and 2-0 in the quarters and semis.
PSG’s 1-0 loss to Botafogo was one of the biggest shocks of the Group Phase. However, if we ignore that smash-and-grab defeat, the Parisiens record reads five wins, 16 goals scored, and none conceded.
PSG have faced significantly tougher opposition than Chelsea in the knockout rounds. Predictably in a different class to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the Last 16, they then beat Bayern Munich 2-0 (despite finishing the game with nine men) before hammering Real Madrid 4-0 in their semi-final.
Key Stats so Far
There is not much between the sides at first glance. The xG numbers, in particular, suggest Chelsea and PSG have played to a similar level so far in the tournament.
Chelsea’s greater number of corners from a lower average possession percentage illustrates their efficiency at advancing attacks, despite the methodical Maresca style of play. That said, the Blues are equally dangerous with rapid-fire counters, scoring six times on the break.
PSG, meanwhile, have largely continued the form which produced that record-setting thrashing of Inter Milan in the Champions League final. Adept at keeping possession, they quickly recover possession thanks to their pressing all over the field. Boasting goals from ten different players in just six games, Luis Enriques's men can hurt you from every angle. Throw in a defence which has kept five clean sheets, and you have close to the complete side.
Betting Markets
- Match Result - Our stats table suggests that Chelsea may offer a touch of value in the match result market at a general price of 9/4. However, PSG posted comparable stats despite butting heads with European titans Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, whereas Chelsea faced mostly inferior opposition. They are priced accordingly at 3/10 with Ladbrokes, but we suspect PSG will confirm their status as the best club side in the world with a win on Sunday evening.
- BTTS - With PSG having shut out both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, we were surprised to see Both Teams To Score priced at just 4/6. With that dominant display against Inter Milan lingering in the memory, odds-against quotes for BTTS (No) look worth snapping up
- Goalscorers - As mentioned, PSG can launch a goalscoring attack from almost any area of the pitch, making goalscorer predictions a little tricky. However, we like the matchup of Desire Doue vs Trevoh Chalobah on the right side of the PSG attack. The man who hit a brace in the Champions League final is solid first scorer value at 5/1
- Bookings - Doué and Kvaratskhelia have been in menacing form thus far, suggesting that Marc Cucurella and Malo Gusto could be in for a torrid evening. Both rate solid options to receive a card, but we prefer to back Cucurella, who is likely to receive less support from the defensively excellent Moises Caicedo on his side of the pitch.
