Liverpool head to Everton for the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon in a game that is vitally important to their Premier League title bid. We go into the weekend with just 10 games left, and with the potential for Manchester City to climb above Liverpool in the table, there is a good chance that The Reds will be under pressure when they take to the field at Goodison Park.
For Everton, their season is far from over and they will have their sights in the 7th position that Wolves currently hold onto. While 7th may not seem like much to some, it would mean that Everton finish as ‘best of the rest’ behind the top six in the league. Of course, on top of that, they would love nothing more than to get one over on their near rivals, and put a real dent in their title bid.
We have seen Liverpool slow down in recent weeks, although there was no sign of that on Wednesday when they put five past Watford. They have drawn three of their last five games, and also drew at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and that has to be a slight worry for their fans.
Some of the players look tired and over played, while sometimes their midfield is lacking a player who can play that deadly final ball, both issues are things which I expect to see addressed over the summer with the addition of at least one more midfielder. However, that won’t help them this season, and they have to find a way to battle on and score goals. Things may have to change slightly, and we may see Liverpool changing the way they play a little to compensate for this, as their free flowing attacking style loses some of its effectiveness.

While every Evertonian would love to beat Liverpool in a normal game, then chance to beat them and put a dent in their title bid means this game is huge for The Toffees. I don’t quite think that Everton are good enough to beat Liverpool, even in front of their own fans, but I do think we will see them take something here.
