Euro 2020 Saturday June 19 Treble
As we move into week 2 of the group stage, these second games are key, and every single one of the games on Saturday is a big one for at least one of the nations competing. We begin with the World Champions France, followed by a huge clash between Portugal and Germany with the final game being a chance for Spain to get their first win on the board.
Here is a look at those three games, and our picks in each one.
Hungary v France
A huge opportunity for France to get six points from their opening two games. We saw Hungary battle in their opener, but were eventually worn down by Portugal and we expect more of the same here. France showed glimpses of quality, but looked like a team that would keep improving, so expect better from them here.
We don’t see Hungary scoring in this one, while France will eventually find a way through, even if it takes them some time, just like it did for Portugal, who eventually went on to score three. With that in mind, we are backing a France win to nil here to kick off our treble.
Portugal v Germany
The biggest game of the day, and if France win this group then one of these two will be second, while the other will have to rely on finishing third and qualifying via that route. Germany lack a star right now, their older players don’t have the legs, and no one stands out from the younger group as being a match winner.
Portugal do have that, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes just two to mention. Despite being in Munich, Portugal are fancied here, and we are backing them for the win. What we do expect is that Germany will keep things incredibly tight, and offer few opportunities like they did against France so with that in mind we are doubling up a Portugal win and under 2.5 goals in the game.
Spain v Poland
The final game of the day sees Spain take on Poland. Spain struggled to breakdown Sweden while Poland didn’t impress in their opener either, so this is a very difficult game to solve. With Spain lacking a natural goal scoring threat and Poland struggling to get going, again we may see few goals on offer in this one.
Rather than trying to pick a winner, the best option may be to go with under 2.5 goals in the game. The result could go either way, but ultimately, whatever happens, goals are likely to be at a premium.
