Chris Sutton: Celtic’s first trophy has put Rangers back in their place
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has told NewBettingOffers.co.uk that he believes Celtic’s League Cup final win last weekend will put Rangers firmly back in their place.
Speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk, Sutton said: “I think Celtic are playing really well at the moment. Of course there’s always the natural expectation of Celtic to perform well and pick up lots of silverware but that brings with it a lot of pressure, and I think it’s really impressive the way they have coped in all competitions.
“Celtic have really surprised me so far in their Champions League campaign in a really good way. They’ve got Young Boys in the league stage next and three points would see them through to the knockouts so it’ll be a highly pressurised game against opponents that haven’t been in the best form.
“In terms of them getting their first trophy of the season in the bag, that’s a big deal and puts Rangers back in their place. There has been chat about Rangers improving in the past couple of weeks but Glasgow is an unforgiving placed and it’s about winning, and if you’re second, you’re last.
“Celtic started their form in preseason though, beating a couple of Premier League sides, both Chelsea and Manchester City, and their performance level was very much there. They’re playing quite a few games at the moment, almost three a week, so their squad is being stretched but I do think they’ve got the players and have been coping OK.
“The expectation to keep winning is very much there, but it’s always nice to get that first trophy, it’s been a good start to the season.”

Sutton heaped praise on Celtic attacker Nicholas Kuhn, who he believes has been the player of the season so far in the Scottish top flight.
“Nicolas Kuhn is a really interesting one. They bought him in the January transfer window last year and he looked slightly off. Fast forward to their pre-season in the US, he was phenomenal and got his sharpness back, scoring a few goals. He started this season brilliantly and fits the Celtic model.
“They like to bring players in, give them some games to develop them and win trophies then try and make some profit when selling them on. I’d say Kuhn has been the best player in the league this season and is certainly getting noticed on the bigger stage for his performances in the Champions League.
“He was only £3.5 million from Rapid Vienna and there’s lots to be excited about with him. If he maintains this form I’d imagine he’ll be voted Player of the Season in Scotland.”
Sutton also recognised Kasper Schmeichel as an apt replacement for Joe Hart in net.
“Kasper Schmeichel saved an unbelievable penalty against Ridvan Yilmaz, and I think he’s been a fantastic signing. I always wondered whether they would be able to replace Joe Hart, you need that same temperament, and Schmeichel has got that.
“He’s a brilliant shot stopper and is great with his feet, but also got the personality to match.”
