Cheltenham 2020 Best Bets for Day One
The first day of the Cheltenham Festival is something that punters look forward to for months. It is the start of a battle between horse racing enthusiast and bookmaker, but who will come out on top?
Here is a look at the first day of the festival, with our three best bets for the opening day of action.
Supasundae to Sweep Past Rivals in Champion Hurdle
There is little doubt that this year’s Champion Hurdle is a little weaker than we are used to. That has made it a fascinating betting heat though, one where many appear to have chances. Question marks surround the front two in the betting, Epatante who was hugely disappointing at the festival last season, and Pentland Hills, who has been disappointing all of this season so far, so we will look elsewhere for a bigger priced runner.
The pick is Supasundae, a guaranteed stayer who can pick off his rivals coming up the home straight and the tough uphill closing stages. Few will be staying on as strongly as this on in the closing stages and assuming he can keep close to the leaders, he appears to have an excellent chance of going close in the big one for Jessica Harrington.
The race is more about using a process of elimination to knock out those who aren’t fancied to win, and one of the few left is Supasundae, a horse we expect to run very well.

Carefully Selected the Day One Banker in National Hunt Chase
The National Hunt Chase closes out the first day of the festival and it is here where the best bet of the day lies. Carefully Selected is rightfully the favourite for this race, and appears to hold exceptional claims.
He looked a staying type over hurdles, and this year he has shown the class to win over shorter trips. Expect him to relish this step up to the stamina test of 3m6f, and see the trip out well. Jockey Patrick Mullins has had this race in mind for the horse for some time now, so much so that he was the only entry from the yard he rides for, his father Willie Mullins.
They have put their eggs all into one basket, the horse looks the perfect type for this race and we are siding with the Mullins team to get the job done with this one.

Captain Guinness Hold Each Way Chances in Wide Open Supreme
The Supreme Novice Hurdle kicks off day one, and it is in this race where we go with an Irish youngster who looks set to relish the Cheltenham hill. The horse in question is Captain Guinness, who has only ran twice over hurdles but has already shown great ability.
Slicker jumping and the uphill finish here should see him involved in what looks to be a wide open first race of the meeting, and at a nice each way price he is certainly one to consider having on your side.
