Breeders Cup 2020 Preview
The Breeders Cup meeting of 2020 takes place this weekend and as per usual we have a number of European runners, particularly from the UK & Ireland, heading over to take their chance.
With the main day of action taking place on Saturday, this is where we are going to focus. Rather than run through the races, we are going to concentrate on runners from Great Britain, so here are the three best chances we have on Saturday night.
Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mares Turf – 6:57pm
The Aidan O’Brien trained Peaceful is one of just three horses who are three year old running in this 14 runner field. You need to take a leap of faith with her as she was very disappointing last time out but that was on heavy ground, the opposite of what she will encounter here.
A winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas back in June, big things were expected this season. She’s not had her ground again since that, but O’Brien clearly thinks enough of her to chance a trip to America.
She’s a nice draw and looks to have solid claims of placing at least here, and is a big enough price to back each way.
Breeders’ Cup Mile – 8:15pm
Kameko heads to stud after this race, trainer Andrew Balding is hoping for a great final run and he could well get it. There are questions over the trip for Kameko but one thing we do know is that he will love to come off the fast pace that American races are ran at.
The Breeders' Cup Mile is a race that holds many British chances, with Siskin, Circus Maximus and more all heading over. However, Kameko has won a Guineas, he has a touch of class and he is potentially exciting here given the pace that he will get in the race, it will suit him more than most.
Expect a quiet ride followed by a late pounce from Oisin Murphy, hopefully a winning one.
Breeders’ Cup Turf – 9:33pm
A race dominated by Europe for the past few years, the Breeders’ Cup Turf looks to be heading to Ireland once more this season. Aidan O’Brien runs two in this, but Mogul is drawn very wide and that should leave the race for Magical, an extremely talented mare who has won seven Group 1 races during her career.
She managed 3rd last time out, despite terrible ground and will be seen to far better effect on this faster ground. Lord North rates a danger from the Gosden yard as does Tarnawa who is three from three this season.
They all have Magical to beat though, she comes from a yard that has an excellent record in this race and we fancy them to add another to their tally.
