Euro 2024 - Quarter Finals Acca Bet

24 started, and eight remain, as Euro 2024 reaches the Quarter Final stage. Taking place over Friday and Saturday, the last eight has thrown up a menu of mouthwatering clashes, including a couple which would be fit to grace the final itself. And yes, running contrary to the level of their performances, England are still involved. Perhaps this will be their year after all. Here, we pick out our best bet in each of the four fixtures, including the England vs Switzerland showdown.
Spain vs Germany – Friday 5pm
An absolute classic kicks off the action at tea time on Friday as the two most impressive sides in the tournament lock horns in Stuttgart. But for being housed in the tricky half of the draw, Spain would surely be favourites to lift the trophy. As slick as ever in midfield, the presence of wide-men Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal has added a new dimension to the Spanish attack. Clogging the central areas had proved to be a solid defence against tiki-taka in recent tournaments, but the constant threat from the flanks has presented the opposition with an entirely different challenge. Winning all four games to date and conceding just once, Spain will be confident of upsetting the hosts.
However, as the old mantra goes, you should never write off the Germans – particularly a German outfit who have hit form at just the right time and have been largely excellent thus far. The Spanish defence has yet to experience real pressure, but that should change against a German side averaging 18 shots per game. In all honesty, we can’t pick a winner in this one, which leads us to the corners market for our opening bet. Spain's wing play has been well advertised, but Germany boast threats of their own – most notably Jamal Musiala, who has been in sizzling form. So far, Spain are averaging 7.25 corners per game and Germany 7.75. As such, bet365’s price of 4/5 for over 9.5 corners looks more than acceptable.
- Recommended Bet - Over 9.5 corners in the game @ 4/5 with bet365
Portugal vs France - Friday 8pm
For the neutral supporter, there is no doubt that the pick of the quarters take place on Friday. Hot on the heels of events in Stuttgart comes this huge clash at the Volkparkstadion. Portugal have impressed at times with their attacking play – averaging 18 shots per game. However, they are being hurt by a lack of a cutting edge; CR7 is yet to get off the mark for the tournament despite shooting from every freekick within hailing distance of the opposition goal. He’s never one to write off, but facing a French defence which has conceded once in four outings, Portugal may need to find alternative avenues.
Whilst not quite as dull as England, France seem intent on riding a wave of pragmatism to the final. It has worked before, and it may work again. We certainly favour Les Bleus in this clash, with the French looking to boast the edge in the key matchups on the pitch – Mbappé vs a 41-year-old Pepé, arriving on the back of a near-120-minute outing, being particularly frightening. We also give France the advantage in the dugout. Deschamps may not be everyones cup of tea, but he is an expert at winning tight encounters such as this, whilst several of Roberto Martinez's decisions have been questionable – most notably waiting an eternity to make the necessary changes. This may not be a great watch, but France are worth backing to take their place in the semis.
- Recommended Bet - France to Qualify @ 4/6 with bet365
England vs Switzerland – Saturday 5pm
Despite arriving at this stage in contrasting styles - Switzerland visually impressive, and England consistently dull – the two sides boast incredibly similar attacking numbers. England’s averages for shots, shots on target and corners sit at 11.25, 4, and 4.5, compared to Switzerland’s respective figures of 11.75, 4.5, and 4.25. However, England do boast a slight edge at the other end of the pitch, with average shots, shots on target and corners against figures of 9.75, 2.25, and 1.75 – measuring up favourably against the Swiss totals of 11.5, 2.25, and 6.25.
Overall, the stats favour England despite their underwhelming displays thus far. However, there is a rather large caveat to that as, in the absence of the suspended Marc Guehi, reports suggest Southgate may revert to a back three system; at the very least, a change in personnel will be required., potentially disrupting the defensive balance. With that in mind, Switzerland look overpriced at 6/4 to qualify, but recommending such an unpatriotic punt is hardly in the spirit of things. Side instead with Both Teams to Score. Switzerland have conceded in all bar one of their games and, despite all we have seen, England do possess some of the most talented attacking players in the tournament. At the other end, that defensive reshuffle can help the Swiss fulfil their end of the bargain.
- Recommended Bet - Both Teams to Score @ 11/10 with bet365
Netherlands vs Turkey – Friday 8pm
The Quarter Finals conclude with this intriguing matchup at the Olympiastadion. Despite a shaky start, the Netherlands comfortably dispatched Romania in the Last 16, with Cody Gakpo again in electric form. Turkey caused a slight upset against a highly touted Austria side when relying on set-pieces to get through despite losing the total shot count 21-6.
On paper, the Netherlands should win this, but few sides display national pride to quite the same levels as Turkey, whose battling qualities were displayed to admirable effect in the Last 16. That, in combination with their explosive attacking threat, makes an upset a realistic possibility. However, the most solid bet is to side with goals. Turkey’s style of play generally lends itself to an attacking game with chances at both ends, whilst the Dutch are dangerous both in open play and on the break. Three of the Netherlands games have featured over 2.5 goals – the exception being a backs-against-the-wall goalless draw with France – and all four of Turkey's matches have bettered the 2.5 mark. There doesn’t appear to be any reason that this game shouldn't continue the trend.
- Recommended Bet - Over 2.5 goals @ 4/5 with bet365
