Germany v Mexico - World Cup Match Preview
Germany vs Mexico - Group F
The defending champions Germany come into the World Cup strongly fancied by many to win another title. This is a much changed team to the one that won in 2014, but key parts remain and those experienced heads will be important in showing the newcomers what a world cup tournament is all about. Mexico will come over thinking they have a good chance of qualifying for the knockout stage, and know their games against Sweden and South Korea later in the tournament will decide that.
There is no doubt that this German team is still full of quality despite the changes we have seen. Most bookmakers have them priced up alongside Brazil as the favourites to win outright, and that is a tag they deserve. Like the team in 2014, it is tough to pick out a strength or weakness in this team, they look very solid everywhere on the pitch. When you look at their bench, they have players on there who would get into other starting eleven’s and overall it looks very positive for the defending champions.
Mexico know this is in effect a free shot to get some points on the board ahead of their two important games. They can ease themselves into the tournament by playing Germany first, and that is something that could help them get into the knockout round as the tournament progresses.
I’m backing a Germany win here, they have enough experience in the team to get by Mexico, but I do think Mexico are a decent team, and worth keeping on the right side of in their other two games.
