EFL Championship Final Day - Betting Tips
The Battle for Promotion and Fight for Survival
The Championship is heading into the final weekend with a lot to play for, giving us some fantastic games to look forward to. With two teams battling it out for the second automatic promotion place, two battling it out for the final playoff spot and five still in contention for two relegation spots, there are five huge games that will determine everything on the final day.
Cardiff vs Reading
Cardiff are in 2nd right now, with a one point lead over their chasers Fulham. The equation for them is simple, win this game and they are in the Premier League. However, their opponents Reading also have something to play for, and that is to avoid relegation. They are in a good position, and other teams below them need to win for Reading to be dragged into it, but they won’t want to risk that and will head to Cardiff desperate for a point. Cardiff have been in good recent form, and they can win this one to reach the Premier League. Verdict: Home win.
Birmingham vs Fulham
To have any chance of automatic promotion, Fulham have to hope that Cardiff slip up in their game and then Fulham have to better the result that Cardiff get. With both games kicking off at the same time, all Fulham can do is go out and win their game and hope for the best. However, they also take on a team needing something to help them avoid relegation in Birmingham, a draw will be enough for them to stay up, and that is how this game looks likely to end, meaning Fulham will need the playoffs. Verdict: Draw.
Derby vs Barnsley
Derby need a point to secure the final playoff spot, while Barnsley are in desperate need of something to stay up, they are only outside of the relegation zone due to their superior goal difference. There are a few situations where one point will suit both clubs, but Barnsley can’t afford to risk that, so will be playing to win this one. Derby have really struggled in recent weeks, but can get a point here to confirm their playoff place, and that point will also be enough to keep Barnsley in the division. Verdict Draw.
Preston vs Burton
Chasing Derby down are Preston, who must win their game and hope that Derby lose against Barnsley. Preston face Burton, who are currently in the relegation zone and fighting for their lives, so this is yet another game this weekend that means a huge amount to both teams. Burton have had a resurgence of late, winning their last three but that looks to set to come to an end here. Preston look the likely winners, although it will not be enough to get them into the playoffs, and that will send Burton down to League One. Verdict Home win.
Bolton vs Nottingham Forest
Bolton simply have to win to give themselves any chance of survival and they take on Nottingham Forest. Their opponents have nothing to play for, which works in favour of Bolton, but in recent games Bolton have been very poor and simply don’t look like winning. While they are battling for their lives this weekend, Bolton simply don’t have the class to win this game, something that will mean relegation for them. Verdict Away win.
